Motorcycle Fairings Question?
I want to buy a 500 Ninja, but I don’t like how the engine is so exposed. Is it possible to customize it and cover the engine with more fairings like the 2008 250’s? How much would it cost to get the same color just to cover the engine parts with? I’m new to bikes so if this sounds retarded please don’t be hateful. Also is a 2 cylinder really loud? Should I go with a 4? What is the primary differences when it comes to bikes? Thanks
You’ll have to buy a body kit to replace the one that’s on there. It’s not that hard to do, and only requires basic tools. The new body panels will come in white, and you’ll have to have them painted plus the cost of stickers. The cost of painting will vary depending on where you take it, I would suggest having them painted first, then install them on the bike.
The body panels can be found at: http://www.parts411.com/acbasp/stores/1/EX500-C8630.aspx
As far as sound is concerned, a 2 cylinder is not necessarily any louder than a 4 cylinder or vice-versa. Usually, the type of exhaust on the bike defines the decibel output of the engine, so a free-flowing performance exhaust is going to be louder than a stock muffler. The other defining factor in noise is the way it is ridden, because folks who run their bikes at 14,000 rpm tend to make more noise than those that operate at 3,000 rpm.
The engine size (250cc, 500cc, etc.) is determined by the size of the piston(s) and the distance they travel up and down inside the engine. Some 2 cylinder bikes have small engines (500cc like the Ninja) and some 2 cylinder bikes have large engines (1340cc in a Harley). It’s also possible to have a small 4 cylinder engine, it all depends on the engineers that designed it. Ferrari has made 12 cylinder engines that have smaller displacements than 8 cylinder engines produced in America.
The 500 Ninja is a good bike for getting yourself around town, although it won’t get around the race track as fast as the 600’s from Kawi or their competitors. If you’re new to bikes, the differences won’t matter to you at all.
Hope this helps…
